Kurali boy to lead Indian junior men's hockey team
Nineteen-year-old Kurali boy Harjeet Singh will lead the Indian Junior men's Hockey team in the Australian Hockey League (AHL), starting September 29 in Perth.
Earlier this year, the midfielder was included in the 18-member squad for the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Talking to The Tribune from Bengaluru, the youngster said he was happy to regain the selectors' faith and added that it was a great opportunity to play Down Under. "It's a great opportunity for us to play in the star-studded AHL. It is one of the prestigious tournaments and I will try to lead the team with a positive frame of mind," said Harjeet.
"The tournament will help us prepare for the World Cup ahead. Leading a team is obviously a big responsibility and my focus is to come triumphant. We are working hard on physical fitness to match the level of international teams. As far as skill is concerned, we are having a good mix of strikers and midfielders to control the game. Rest, we will be eyeing to implement our plans on field for a positive result," said a confident Harjeet, son of a former truck driver.
