Rio Olympics 2016: India beat Spain 2-1 in a practice match

In what can be called a stage rehearsal before the main event scheduled to flag off on Saturday, the Blueshirts fetched a favourable result to mark their arrival at the city of Rio de Janeiro. Facing the Spaniards with whom their last match ended in a draw not too long ago at the Six Nations’ Invitational Tournament in Madrid, the Indian Men’s hockey team claimed a 2-1 victory earlier today.

It was heartening to see forward Akashdeep Singh getting his name onto the scoresheet while ace drag-flicker Rupinder Pal Singh upheld his end of the bargain by slotting home one penalty corner opportunity to beat the Spanish side in Rio.

Skipper P R Sreejesh expressed his satisfaction at the players’ faring after the game alongside mentioning the positives they would be taking forward from the day’s action.

On the other side, World No. 1 Australia trounced the German outfit 5-2 with their talisman Blake Govers scoring a brace while each amongst Eddie Ockenden, Jeremy Hayward and Jake Whetton had a goal to show against their names.
